"Reiner," a small whisper in the darkness made the blond open his eyes. "Are you still up...?"

"Yeah," he groaned a little, turning on his side to face a curled up Bertholdt.

"Don't be so loud; you'll wake the others..." The taller boy whispered.

"Fine," Reiner sighed a bit. "What's eating you?"

Bertholdt froze, his eyes trembling as sweat trickled down his face.

Realizing his bad choice of words, the older boy put a gentle hand on his friend's head of dark hair. "Sorry."

Bertholdt curled up more, his knees touching his chest. He buried his face in his knees.

That has to be uncomfortable... Reiner thought to himself, slightly worried about his childhood friend.

"I'm scared..."

The whisper that emitted from Bertl was muffled and very quiet, but since it was dead silent, Reiner had no trouble hearing him.

After a moment's hesitation, Reiner pulled Bertholdt close in a comforting embrace.

This obviously surprised Bertholdt, for he jumped a little, causing the bunk to shake a bit.

The resident below groaned a little, shifted, and went back to sleep.

Reiner weaved a hand's fingers through his friend's hair, resting his head on Bertl's.

"R- Reiner...?"

"It's okay to feel fear, Bertl. I feel it too."

"... Does Annie too?"

"Yeah," a small whisper emitted from elsewhere.

"Annie, you shouldn't be talking to us," Reiner quietly scolded.

"You guys woke me up."

"Sorry..." Bertholdt unconsciously buried his face into Reiner's chest, feeling more sweat coming.

They heard shifting, knowing the blonde went back to sleep.

Reiner closed his eyes. "Now go back to sleep, okay?"

"Okay..." Bertholdt obediently nodded, closing his eyes and falling asleep.

The next morning, Reiner looked at his friend's very uncomfortable sleeping position.

Bertholdt had an arm and leg dangling over the edge, he was face down, his head was buried in his pillow... As for his free arm and leg, his arm was up next to his head and his leg was bent, foot touching the other leg's thigh.

"It's going to be sunny today," Connie predicted, observing the still fast asleep boy.

"My guess if partly cloudy," Marco suggested. "See how part of him is off the bed?"

Reiner felt a smile tug at his lips. He glanced over at Annie, seeing she wasn't even looking their direction; she was much too busy fixing her bed.

The mission will proceed as planned, he thought to himself...
